Sächsilüüte

Sechseläuten_Flaggen

Every spring we celebrate the usage “Sechseläuten” translated: six o’clock rings in the Canton Zürich. We always burn the “Böögg”, a snowmen filled with firecracker, in April at six o’clock. The burning of the “Böögg” symbolises dispel of the winter. The faster the “Böögg” burns down and the head falls apart, the better the coming summer is getting. This summer should be a sunny and nice summer, because the “Böögg” burnt down very fast with its 9:65 minutes.

A lot is going on this weekend and the next whole month.

This weekend offers a lot. If you want to spend your weekend partying or if you just want to relax, there is something to do for everyone. If you’re in Switzerland and want to experience something you can’t in your own country I think you should visit the Luzerner Fasnacht, (carnival) one of the biggest carnivals in Switzerland. It started February the 23 and goes on until March the 18. If you want to know what “Fasnacht” is, check out my other blog: Fasnacht.

If you’re not the Fasnacht-type but you want to party you should go to our many clubs or bars. In my opinion there are the most clubs and bars in the Kanton Basel, Luzern, Lausanne and Zuerich. If you like Techno-Music you should check out these Clubs: Kiste, Hive, Nordstern, Kugl, Borderline and a lot more. And if you like Charts-Music check out these Clubs: Kaufleuten, Velvet, Java, Mad Wallstreet, Kanzlei, Schüür und a lot more.

Fasnacht

In a couple of days the Swiss biggest carnival is going to start. Basler Fasnacht or how the people from the Kanton Basel call it: “Drey scheenschte Dääg”, translated: The three most beautiful days.

We celebrate carnival (“Fasnacht” in swiss german) all over Switzerland. Every Kanton has its own traditions and ways to celebrate it. But to summarize it for people who never celebrated it: everyone gets dressed up and celebrates together. During the day you celebrate on the streets in the city and at night in locations. Of course it’s a lot more than just getting dressed up and celebrate but I think you just have to see this all by yourself! If you’re not from Switzerland it’s really worth it to come by and experience this special days. Below I’ve got some expressions to get a feeling how it’s like.
